MS Project 2010 - for the real world,
MS Project 2010
Scheduling tools can be a great aid in understanding very complex projects and keeping control over them but they can be a bit overwhelming. They have many features and functions that make life easy to control a project. This course teaches MS Project 2010 in a way that someone would need to perform the work efforts to build a schedule, manage a schedule, and report against a schedule.
The course is focused on learning the tool in a hands on workshop but it will also cover core project management concepts and integrate them into the tools use.
The following job aids will be provided:
• MS Project 2010 Ribbons Guide
• MS Project 2010 – Process Checklist – Build, Manage, Report
• Student Guide – Provides course materials and screen shot navigation through the
lessons tied to the process checklist
To make a student capable of building, managing, and reporting a deliverables based plan using MS Project 2010
Following this session attendee’s will be able to:
• Efficiently navigate MS Project 2010
• Correctly setup a project using a defined setup process
• Effectively use project calendars and views
• Create a deliverables based schedule for a project
• Create a project baseline that establishes a controlled schedule
• Analyze a schedule variance
• Make changes in a project schedule without causing strange things to happen
• Use the core reporting features to update the project team and sponsors on the status
of a project
• Use the schedule as the “one source of truth” for their project
Employing these new skills will result in:
• Greater control over the schedule of a project
• More efficient use of planning and project execution time
• The ability to use MS Project as a repository for most important project information
allowing the student to perform “what if” analysis on their project
• A single source of project information that is easier to maintain
The course requires the following preparation:
• MS Project 2010 installed on a laptop
• Experience in project planning and execution
